High School Baseball and Softball Power Rankings

South Dakota Class A

1. Roosevelt 3-1

All four Sioux Falls schools participated in the Dakota Border Battle against Fargo North, Fargo Shanley and Fargo Davies last weekend. The Sioux Falls schools went 11-1 against the Fargo schools. Roosevelt was the most impressive with a 30-1 combined score over the two day battle. Roosevelt stays atop the power rankings despite losing a one-run game to Lincoln on Tuesday.

2. Brookings 9-4

Brookings has looked sharp this year. They lost a pair to Yankton in March but avenged those losses with a sweep of the Bucks in April. Their most impressive feat was a sweep of Brandon Valley last Tuesday night including a walk off single by Mack Burns to get the 4-3 victory.

3. Yankton 7-3

The Bucks lost early in the year to Brandon and recently to Brookings but have been rock solid the rest of their schedule. Tanner Termanson, Lane Sawatzke and Mitch Gullickson have been anchors in this loaded lineup.

4. Lincoln 5-1

The up and coming Pats lost their only game of the year to O'Gorman but went 3-0 against Fargo schools and are the lone team to beat Roosevelt. Lincoln took out the Riders behind a solid pitching performance from Nolan Burchill.

5. Brandon Valley 3-3

Lane Bauske and Nic Peterson have been supplying the pitching but teams have been successfully pitching around Jacob Adams and the Brandon Valley offense so far.

South Dakota Class B

1. St. Thomas More 4-1

The Cavs have rolled over their last three opponents by a combined 45-0 score. George Eccarius threw a no hitter against Bennett County in one of those games. They face off against Winner on Monday.

2. Bon Homme 1-1

3. Vermillion 4-1

4. Lead-Deadwood 1-0

5. Madison 3-0

 

North Dakota Class A

1. Minot 4-2

The best two-loss team in the state got a great performance from Demitry Zafra on Tuesday night. The future SMSU Mustang pitched six innings of no-hit ball against the ranked Dickinson offense while giving up just one walk.

2. Red River

3. Dickinson 3-2

Lost to Century and Minot so far this year but got an impressive sweep of Bismarck last week.

4. Bismarck 4-3

The Demons are just getting back to full strength. Quinn Irey is easing back into the lineup after an ankle injury. The All-Stater should help the Demons get back to form.

5. Mandan 3-2

Mandan is coming off of a 4-14 season in style. The improved Braves posted wins over Minot and Bismarck putting them on the map. Parker Harm, Alex Weiand, Jared Walters, Bryce Andersen and Dylan Scherr anchor one of hte deepest rotations in the class.

 

North Dakota Class B

1.     Shiloh Christian  9-0

Beat Grafton and Bishop Ryan in Shiloh Invitational. They've been impressive early in the season winning close games and playing tough competition.

2.. Ryan  6-3

Lost to Shiloh and Grafton, Velva-Drake Anamoose so far this year. Despite the early season losses they've proven to be one of the best in the class.

3. Thompson 2-1

Only loss of the year came to Shiloh 2-1 early  in the year. This team could sneak up on the rest of the class.

4.     Hazen       2-1

Impressive win against Grafton put the Bison in the rankings.

5.    Grafton 1-2

Lost to  Hazen and Shiloh.  Brent Longtin, Jess Suda, Zak Hernandez, Charles Thompson and Cody Kingsbury all have provided the Spoilers with some spark. Don't be fooled by their record this team is good.

 

SOFTBALL

North Dakota Class A

1.   West Fargo 4-0

Michaela Liebl hit a big homer and drove in five runs as the Packers held their claim as the best team in the state in a 10-0 victory over Minot Ryan on Friday. Brittany Rheault got the win for the Packers and looks to be in mid-season form.

2.            Dickinson  5-0

Strictly looking at the scoreboard, Dickinson has been the most dominant  team in the state.    Madison Jahner threw a no hitter and Haley Butterfield followed it up with 10 K’s for the Dickinson pitching staff.

3.    Bishop Ryan 2-2

Lost to Bismarck and West Fargo so far this year.  Hannah Stewart has struggled to an 0-2 to start this year but she's faced some pretty good competition. Still one of the best teams in the league. They beat a good Valley City team 13-1.

4.       Valley City 6-1

5.     Century 6-2

Lost two games early to Dickinson but dominated Jamestown 24-1 in two games, then put up 17 and 12 against North and Red River. This offense is very good.
