Twelve weeks of high school football will culminate in a football marathon on Friday as we crown four state champions in the state of North Dakota at Dakota Bowl XXVII! We’re guaranteed new state champions in Class AAA, Class AA and 9-man, but Langdon-Edmore-Munich is back to defend its Class A title. Class AAA will come down to undefeated Bismarck Century and EDC champ West Fargo Sheyenne. The Mustangs are making their first state championship game appearance after knocking off rival West Fargo High in the semifinal round. Hillsboro-Central Valley is making a third consecutive appearance at the Dakota Bowl. The Burros won the Class A crown in 2017 and finished runner-up in Class A in 2018, but now have a chance to win the Class AA title. The Burros’ opponent, Beulah, is playing in its first Dakota Bowl since winning the AA championship in 2015. Bishop Ryan will try to stun defending champ Langdon-Edmore-Munich in Class A. The Cardinals will take a 24-game win streak into the Fargodome, while the Lions are in their first Dakota Bowl since 1999.

The action on Friday will start with the 9-man tilt featuring 6-time state champion Cavalier against Kidder County and its impressive ground game that averages over 300 yards per game. Kidder County proved all three of us wrong last week by going to Hope, ND and taking down Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page. Bishop Ryan’s upset over Velva gave me a boost, but Chase came right back with a Beulah pick to make sure we’re all knotted up at 33-7 going into the final four contests.
