Who doesn’t love a good success story?
Kalen DeBoer is a South Dakotan to his core. He grew up here, played his college ball here, even started his family here. In fact, there was a time – not all that long ago, mind you – when he wasn’t sure he would ever leave.
But after an incredible five-year run as the head coach at the University of Sioux Falls (his alma mater), which included 67 wins and three NAIA National Championships, DeBoer decided to see where else football might take him.
Not even he can believe the rest.
In a span of ten years, DeBoer has gone from Bob Young Field to the Big Ten, where he’s in his first season as the Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks coach at Indiana University.
In this latest edition of the MidcoSN podcast, DeBoer and I talked about his rapid rise, life in Hoosier Country and the idea of, someday, being in charge of another program.
