SD High School Basketball Rankings

There is one new number one team this week. Sioux Falls Christian switched spots with Madison in the Boys A poll after defeating the Bulldogs last Friday night.

The South Dakota Prep Media basketball poll for the week of Jan. 22 is listed below, ranking the top-five teams, the team’s record, points received and ranking in the previous poll. First-place votes are indicated in parentheses.

Boys

Class AA

The Tigers stay at number one after beating Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Sioux Falls Washington last week. Sioux Falls Lincoln garnered six first place votes (including mine), they haven't lost to a team in AA yet either. Rapid City Central lost their first game of the year to O'Gorman on Friday night 65-49. Brandon Valley might be the hottest team in the class with seven wins in a row.

Class A

Sioux Falls Christian has defeated all comers. They sealed a tough Dak 12 week with wins against Vermillion and Madison on back to back nights. The Road doesn't get much easier as they face Tea Area on Tuesday and then three ranked teams in their next four games after that. Bon Homme makes the top five for the first time this year.

Clark/Willow Lake, Bridgewater-Emery and White River all got first place votes this week. White River got a come from behind win against Roncalli to stay unbeaten.

Girls

Class AA

Truly the hardest class to rank. Aberdeen Central captured the bulk of the top votes with a big road win over Harrisburg and home wins over Mitchell and Yankton. However the rest of the top five field is lurking very close. Sioux Falls Lincoln moved up to three with a win over Brandon Valley. In that game the Lynx were without Trinity Law but despite that loss stay in the top five.

Class A

St. Thomas More continues to hold the top spot although Belle Fource still has a perfect record. Those two teams meet next Tuesday (Jan 30) to play for bragging rights in the class. McCook Central/Montrose re-emerges into the top five and West Central's brief stay ends after a week.

No change in this top five as Sully Buttes keeps the top spot, however Castlewood is making some into believers after going 2-0 last week including an overtime win over De Smet.
