This Week In USD Football

For one day, we got a reminder of what South Dakota football used to be like.

USD, which entered the game at Northern Iowa with four turnovers all season, gave it away on three straight fourth quarter possessions, leading to 14 UNI points and, ultimately, a gut-wrenching 34-29 defeat.

The fact that this team had given us no prior indication that something like that was even possible is precisely what made that final nine minutes so shocking.

This year's Coyotes are too good for that, or so we thought.

In reality, it's just another example of life in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. If you want to win, you have to play clean. You have to take care of the football. You have to finish.

Next Up

There's no time to get hung up on what should have been because this week's test at No. 6 North Dakota State will be tougher.

The Bison (8-1, 5-1 MVFC) may be a little extra salty after suffering their first loss of the season at South Dakota State last week.

This will be the 82nd meeting between the programs all-time. The Bison hold a 53-26-2 edge overall and are 4-1 against the Coyotes at the Division I level.

South Dakota's one win in that span came at the Fargodome in 2015.
