We're gettting close to the end of the year, which means it's time to start thinking about who the player of the year might be in each state. I've made a short list to get the conversation started. Please add names of those who you think are deserving in the comment section.
South Dakota
1. OT Matt Farniok, SF Washington: Best player in the state, but because he’s a lineman doesn’t get any stats but he leads the best team in the state from the offensive line.
2. QB Jack Schelhaas, SF Washington: He’s been better and better throughout the season and looks like the best quarterback in the state.
3. QB Brevin Kaiser, Pierre: Best pure passer in the state, he's a true team leader for the best team in 11AA.
4. QB Kanin Nelson, Mitchell: Lacks playmakers around him in the passing game but has been dominant running the ball.
5. QB Jett Thune, SF Roosevelt: He’s coming off of a 6TD throwing performance and is one of the most consistant players around.
6. QB Luke Fritsch, SF O’Gorman: Luke does it on both sides of the ball and is one of the best leaders in the state.
7. RB Gerald Maxwell, Brookings: Best pure running back in the state even though defenses key on him every week.
8. QB Mitch Hansen, Madison: Leading an undefeated team, putting up tons of passing yards.
9. RB Keegan Van Egdom, SF Christian: Gaudy numbers but not great competition. The one tough game he played he had a very good game though.
10. WR Lee Ransom, SF Lincoln: One of the best touchdown makers in the state.
North Dakota
1. QB Dalton Feeney, Century: returned from injury just three weeks ago, but has easily been the best player in the state since his return.
2. RB Tyrell Harris, Dickinson: He’s single-handedly made this team into a perennial loser into a top five team.
3. QB Ben Bolinske, Minot: Been the most steady QB in ND throughout the season.
4. TE Braydon Lund, Minot: Absolute beast as a pass catcher and also dominant at defensive end.
5. QB Carson Zarak, Wahpeton: Best dual threat QB in the state.
6. RB Jaxon Ford, Bismarck: Benefits from great OL play and continues to put up huge numbers
7. RB Chase Teiken, West Fargo: See Jaxon Ford
8. QB Creighton Pfau, West Fargo: Belongs in the conversation but hasn’t done enough to separate himself as being the best.
9. RB Malek Larimer, Thompson: Best player in 9Man but wasn’t at his best in the biggest game of the year so wait until playoffs are done to see how he does.
10. QB Jake Carlson, Mandan: Has been a sharp passer and picks up yards with his legs when the play breaks down.
