It's been the strangest of seasons so far for Miami Forward Austin Czarnik. The NCHC All-Conference Preseason selection had to endure a stretch of 20 games this year before netting his first goal of the season. There were 21 assists to his name prior to the score that came at the 7:27 mark of the 2nd period against RPI this past Saturday.

Now, with the monkey off his back, will the floodgates open for Czarnik who has averaged 12 goals per year over his first three seasons with the RedHawks? Odds would indicate they certainly could, but the bigger question is - does it matter?

Miami currently sits atop the NCHC standings - and no team in the league has scored more goals than the RedHawks this season. As I mentioned, Czarnik already has 21 assists to his credit, so he's certainly been contributing. That was never more evident than back on December 5th against Omaha when the Mavs had pulled their goalie and Czarnik was skating in with a wide open net. But instead of scoring his first goal of the year there, #7 slid the puck across the ice to his teammate Michael Mooney so he could pick up his first goal of the season.

It's that kind of team effort that is going to coninue to drive Miami to the top of the NCHC race regardless of how many goals are coming Czarnik's way, so rest assured there's more good things to come for the Senior forward one way or another.
