SD BOYS AA: 1. Huron (5-0) 2. RC Stevens (5-1) 3. SF Roosevelt (2-0) 4. Lincoln (2-4) 5. Pierre (4-0)
Huron has proven to be so much more than a one-man show with Justin Decker. Caleb Carr, JP Noonan, Hayden Busch and the rest of the Tigers have stormed out to a quick start at 5-0. The Tigers have three more home games in a row against Watertown, Brookings and Aberdeen Central which should keep their winnings streak alive. Best game of the week will feature SF Roosevelt visiting RC Stevens on Friday night.
SD BOYS A: 1. Madison (5-0) 2. Sioux Valley (5-0) 3. Pine Ridge (4-1) 4. Roncalli (5-1) 5. Vermillion (6-0)
Madison has won their first five games by 15 or more points. Sioux Valley has only been tested in a close game once. Those two teams seem to be the cream of the crop early on. Vermillion is a team to keep your eye on as Tyrell Harper and Nick Jensen have the Tanagers moving in the right direction.
SD BOYS B: 1. Langford (6-0) 2. Wolsey Wessington (4-0) 3. White River (4-1) 4. James Valley Christian (3-1) 5. Platte Geddes (4-1)
James Valley Christian and Platte-Geddes both lost to unranked teams this week (Ethan and Mt.Vernon-Plankinton). Wolsey-Wessington faces James Valley Christian in a battle of District Six teams on Thursday 1/9.
SD GIRLS AA: 1. Washington (8-0) 2. Mitchell (7-0) 3. Harrisburg (4-1) 4. SF O’Gorman (5-2) 5. Pierre (3-2)
The Washington Warriors won by less than 20 for the first time on Tuesday night at the Lincoln gym as they beat the Patriots 59-42. The Warriors got a shot of offense from the return of Sydney Arrington in the lineup as she poured in 16 points in her first game of the year. Mitchell's Macy Miller scored 31 points on Tuesday night and barely moved the meter on her points per game average of 28.
Macy Miller numbers…
198 points thru 7 games = 28.3 PPG = 45.9% of team scoring (very consistent… 26, 27, 27, 31, 29, 27, 31)
Taylor Volesky…
111 pts thru 7 = 15.9 PPG = 25.8% of team scoring
Miller + Volesky = 71.7% of team scoring
These two unbeaten teams have a real chance of running the table this year. But there is a big difference between a chance of running the table and actually doing it. It will be fun to keep an eye on though.
SD GIRLS A: 1. St. Thomas More (6-0) 2. Winner (7-0) 3. Elk Point-Jefferson (5-1) 4. Dakota Valley (5-1) 5. West Central (5-1)
St. Thomas More seems to be the clear favorites in this class but watch out for the Winner Warriors. They have won by more than 30 points in all but two games this year. They score points in bunches and shoot a high percentage from the field. Kelsey Bertram has been outstanding with 15.8 points per game and 4.5 steals per game on defense.
SD GIRLS B: 1. Sully Buttes (4-0) 2. Warner (3-1) 3. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (4-0) 4. De Smet (5-0) 5. Summit (6-0)
Sully Buttes went on the road and took out the Warner Monarchs, a team that hadn't lost since March 2, 2012. Sully Buttes has played well behind their point guard and leader Remi Wientjes. Watch for Sully Buttes as they play the role of the favorites now.
ND Boys A 1. St. Mary (5-0) 2. Century (6-0) 3. Fargo Davies (4-0) 4. Wahpeton (3-1) 5. Red River (3-1)
Top two teams in my rankings squared off last Friday night in the St. Mary gym and played evenly through most of the first quarter, then the game was postponed because of excess humidity in the gym. We will have to wait and see who is the best in the west.
ND Class B Boys 1. Milnor (8-0) 2. Rugby (7-0) 3. Cavalier (8-1) 4. Des Lacs-Burlington (7-1) 5. Four Winds (8-1)
ND Class A Girls
1. Bismarck Century (7-0) 2. West Fargo (6-0) 3. Bismarck (4-1) 4. Fargo Davies (3-1) 5.Fargo Shanley (4-1)
West Fargo has jumped out to a great start behind the emergence of freshman Akealy Moton. She has powered a very balanced scoring team with a 17ppg average.
ND Class B Girls
1. Bishop Ryan (6-0) 2. Thompson (7-1) 3. Beach (5-0) 4. Shiloh Christian (4-1) 5. Central Cass (4-1)
