Bismarck Century at Bismarck

Last Meeting: Bismarck at Century 34-21

What to watch for: Century used a fourth quarter field goal by Dominic Neameyer to take the lead 31-28 and that’s how it stayed against Fargo Davies in the quarterfinal round. The Bismarck Demons ground game dominated the West Fargo Packers last Friday night. The Demons pushed the ball up the field for 265 yards as they won 34-21. Century lost their sophomore quarterback Dalton Feeney to a wrist injury last game against Davies.

 

 

Minot at Fargo South

Last Meeting: 10/29/13 Fargo South beat Minot 21-10

What to watch for: Fargo South’s weapon in the backfield, James Johannesson, will go against the toughest defense in the state. Johannesson has rushed for 2,122 yards and 24 touchdowns so far this season. Minot will try to take a page out of the West Fargo playbook as the only team to slow down Johannesson this season.

Minot’s head coach Barry Holmen told the Minot Daily News, “They have one of the best tailbacks in the state (James Johannesson), bar none, and a very good, big offensive line, so we'll have our hands full there."

Minot’s defense has given up just 10.9 points per game but Fargo South’s offense is tough to hold down. Fargo South averages 39.3 points per game.

Bismarck St. Mary at Fargo Shanley

Last Meeting: 8/31/13 St. Mary beat Shanley 14-9

What to watch for: The first game of the year for these teams produced a shocking outcome to almost everyone in the state. Fargo Shanley was returning virtually all their big playmakers from a state championship team. When they started out the season in Bismarck against St. Mary, the Saints were not on the radar. They hadn’t won a playoff game since 1996, but this Saints team proved to be different. They shut down the high powered Shanley attack with a devastating defense and they haven’t let up all season.

Since that opening loss the Shanley Deacons have won nine straight. Shanley has won their last six games by at least 20 points and they’ve hit their stride. Last week Tre Fort scored three touchdowns in less than three minutes (four total).

 

 

 

Wahpeton at Bishop Ryan

What to watch for: Bishop Ryan is the lone unbeaten team in the class. They have the top scoring offense in the class while Wahpeton features the number two scoring offense. Both teams run the spread and like to move quickly. This should be a fun game to watch.

Linton HMB at Milnor-North Sargent

Last Meeting: 9/27/13  Milnor-North Sargent beat Linton HMB 20-14

What to watch for: Linton’s Ryan Jacob ran for 163 yds as Linton held off Oakes 16-9.

The Lions have now won five in a row, they haven’t lost since MNS took them out in late September. This game features two great defenses. Milnor-North Sargent has a balanced offense with Britton Bussman( 762 yds passing 6TD) throwing and Austin Martinson (728 yds 12TD) running. Dawson Peterson leads the MNS team on Defense with 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

 

 

Hazen at Des Lacs-Burlington

Last Meeting: 9/27/13  Milnor-North Sargent beat Linton HMB 20-14

What to watch for: This is a battle of two unbeaten teams. Hazen is the defending champs while the Lakers of DesLacs-Burlington haven’t won a playoff game in a decade until this year. DL-B is on a roll they scored 19 unanswered points to comeback to beat Velva last week. Senior quarterback Austin Schestler (836 yds 11 TDs) , running back Eric Knutson (652 yds 8TD) and Brett Schaefer (759 yds 10TD) bolster an offense that keeps getting it done. But it’s the DL-B defense that keeps improving.  Tanner Holte has 8 sacks and helps this opportunistic defense get it done. Hazen just keeps steadily dominating the opposition. They have gone through much of the season without Briar Bornemann in the backfield, now that he’s back and in full stride, Bornemann, Connor Doll and Nate Leintz have been nearly unstoppable. The Bison have put up 390 points and given up 74 this season. Hazen will try to extend their 17 game win streak to another Dakota Bowl appearance.

 

North Dakota 9-Man

Westhope-Newberg-Glenburn at Shiloh Christian

What to watch for: WNG came into last season’s playoff much like this year having to win road games to stay alive. They beat TGU last week avenging an ealier loss (40-18) when quarterback Hunter Braaten rushed for three touchdowns and got one passing. Braaten is one of the most electric players in the class (1,582 yards22TDs rushing, 1,118 yds 10TDs passing). On the other sideline Shiloh Christian has been downright scary. Their offense can be explained in one word – EXPLOSIVE. The Skyhawks use a mixture of Blake Emmel and A.J. Dale running the ball with stead Zac Martin under center. This is the deepest run in school history for Shiloh Christian and they are the favorite to get to a title game next week.

 

Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter

What to watch for: Trent Fettig of NGS has quietly been ripping through defenses all season. Last week he ran for 215 yds and 5 TDs in their 42-6 win over Finley-Sharon- Hope-Page. Cavalier will have their hands full trying to stop the high powered offense. But Cavalier’s defense has been epic this year. They didn’t allow a single point in the regular season and have outscored opponents 102-30 in the postseason. Brock Robbins and Ryan Chrest do it on both sides of the ball for the Tornadoes.
