It looks like the Coyotes have found a featured running back.
After splitting carries with fellow redshirt freshman Jordan Roberts for the first five games, Trevor Bouma, literally, took the ball and ran with it on Saturday, setting career-highs in carries (28), rushing yards (145), and rushing touchdowns (2) in leading the Coyotes to a 17-14 win over Indiana State.
Those numbers - which earned Bouma Newcomer of the Week honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference - aren't a huge surprise to anyone that's seen him play at the DakotaDome this season.
Bouma has been at his best in Vermillion, averaging 99.7 yards rushing on 5.2 yards per carry in the Coyotes' three home games.
That's the type of running that has also allowed Bouma to separate himself in practice over the past few weeks. Roberts will continue to play a significant role in the offense going forward, but Joe Glenn says Bouma has earned a chance to carry the ball more.
