High School Football Power Rankings - South Dakota

Class 11AAA

1. SF Roosevelt (1-0)

Saturday night Roosevelt used two rushing TDs and two passing TDs from Taryn Christion and a stifling defensive effort including two sacks and a safety from DE Kory Lindquist as they beat Brandon Valley 30-0 in a game called in the fourth quarter because of lightning. That defensive performance was great.

2. SF Lincoln (1-0)

Lincoln struggled at the start but used 21 straight points in the 2nd quarter to cut down the Cobblers 55-19. Quintanilla went for 172 yds rushing and 3TDs.

3. SF Washington (1-0)

The defending champs pulled out a close one against an improved Aberdeen team 19-17

4. SF O'Gorman (1-0)

O’Gorman beat RC stevens 34-9 behind powerful running of Matt White and his 147 yards and a TD. But the story was Tanner Schulte who broke his ankle and for the second straight year will miss a majority of the season, you gotta feel for him.

5. Brandon Valley (0-1)

Brandon Valley showed glimpses of potential as they shut down the Roosevelt offense for the most part early in their game. Quarterback Jake Comeaux's premiere was a good learning tool and they will put up points against any other team, just not the Riders.

Others...

6. Aberdeen Central (0-1) Jacob Goehring threw for 262 yds in the loss, but the Warrior defense held on for a 19-17 win.

7. RC Central (0-1) The junior connection of Donovan Pallato at quarterback and Josh Dotson at receiver will be a threat this year, just not enough in the tank to hang with the Patriots.

8. RC Stevens (0-1) The Raiders played well but so did the rest of the class, so they sit at the bottom this week.

Class 11AA

1. Pierre (1-0)

Pierre came back after trailing most of the first half to get the win 35-24 over Watertown. Alexander Gray threw for 220 yds and 2TDs while running for 93 yds and 2TDs.

2. Brookings (1-0)

It's hard to move up in the rankings when it took everything you got to beat Huron. They stuffed the Tigers late to win 20-13.  But if the Bobcats shore up their mistakes they'll be good.

3. Watertown (0-1)

There is a lot of fight in the Arrows this year. Shay Bratland ran the ball at will against Pierre in the first quarter. They were up early and came back late, but gave up too much in the middle of the game.

4. Mitchell (1-0)

Mitch Johnson scored the Kernels first two touchdowns (run and a interception return) and Beau Brown scored on a pass from Kanin Nelson to put the Kernels in the lead for good as Mitchell topped Yankton in surprising fashion on the road. Mitchell now hosts Harrisburg and could prove to be contenders.

5. Yankton (0-1)

An early season loss can wake you up, I believe once the Bucks wake up from their surprising loss to Mitchell they'll be back. Levi Davis and Jordan Lightner only combined for 118 yards in the opener, they should be closer to 150-200 yard mark next week.
