SD Class A

Roosevelt                           6-2

The Riders have lost two in a row (O’Gorman, Yankton) but they are still my number one team. They’ve mustered just 12 hits in their last three games but they are still the team to beat because of their pitching.

Yankton                              7-3

The Bucks are on a roll. Their quality wins include beating Washington, and Roosevelt. Dustin Hopper had a double and two RBI to lead Yankton over Roosevelt. Lane Sawatzke has been a big-time threat as a pitcher and hitter. The Bucks have four games in the next 48 hours, they are going to Mitchell for a doubleheader Thursday, then play Brandon Valley twice on Friday.

Brandon Valley                  8-2

The Lynx might be the most dangerous offense in the state. After a loss to Huron 14-6 in Sioux City, and an early season close loss to Roosevelt, they’ve been on fire. They pounded Washington 11-1 and have shut down the Rapid City teams.

Mitchell                              7-3

Mitchell dropped their first two games of the year, since have given up four runs in six games. Tuesday they split with O’Gorman, dominating the first game and losing a close one in the re-match.

Washington                       4-2

Despite losses to Brandon Valley and Yankton, the Warriors have been steady enough to stay in the top five. They’ll have to find some more offense in bunches to move up the ladder.

Notes

Ethan Landon out for about two weeks because of back pain. Lincoln hopes to have him back for regions.

O’Gorman has four losses but keeps improving. They have scratched out tough wins over Roosevelt and Mitchell this week.

Brookings lost 6-3 to Huron and Brandon 2-0 on April 26th. They could be a threat but have been inconsistent early.

Pierre has been up and down in their first year as a club HS team. Cooper Walton has been one of the best pitchers in the state.
