Varsity Sports Now - Baseball Power Rankings (ND Class A&B)

ND Class A

1. West Fargo     13-3

West Fargo put together a 12-game win streak that was stopped by Fargo North in a 9-8 battle on Monday. Tuesday West Fargo split with Davies (18-9, 9-12). No offense in the league has been as efficient as West Fargo. Ben Huber has been a great player for the Packers.

2. Minot               14-2

Back to back losses have set the Magicians back, but Demitry Zafra has been solid with four wins. Minot will have to set themselves up in the pitching department to compete with Bismarck for the top spot in the west.

3. Red River        10-3

The Riders dropped a pair to Fargo North but bounced back with a great pitching performance from Zach Mahoney. He pitched into the sixth inning against Shanley and struck out 11 while not yielding an earned run. Coach Mark Varriano believes their pitching will carry them, “If we could hit the ball at all we’ll be tough to beat. We have the pitching.”

4. Bismarck         10-4

Good week for Bismarck, as they swept Minot handing the Magicians their first two losses of the season. Steady pitching and improved hitting have made the Demons as scary as people thought they would be. They also swept St. Mary’s, and split Jamestown (2-1, 1-8).

5. Jamestown 10-4

Tyler Ukestad pitched well but got beat by the Deomns 2-1. Shawn Hogan, Ben Walz and Ukestad have really generated some runs and some buzz about how far the Jays can go this year.

Fargo North and Fargo Davies are just on the outside looking in. North has been consistently consistent, getting some power from Charlie Cardwell and Ian Schultz.

ND Class B

1. Beulah                            15-1

Lost for the first time to Washburn Wilton CS, but avenged that with a sweep later in the week.

2. Grafton                          14-0

Hunter Baldwin no-hit Cavalier. He had 9 K’s in the game. In the second game Baldwin went 1 for 2 with a HR while Tyler Kliniske only gave up one hit.

3. Bishop Ryan                  11-1

Lost to VDA 6-5 but came back with a win, they won’t win their region in the regular season but they are one of the toughest teams in the class.

4. Velva-Drake-Anamoose 6-2

They won the region crown over Bishop Ryan on a 6-5 win.

5. Carrington                     9-2

Losses on the year to North Star and New Rockford-Sheyenne have both been close. Carrington can play with anyone in the state.
