SD Class A

1. Roosevelt (3-0)

The Riders have been involved in three close wins so far this season. Wins include Brandon Valley 3-2, Lincoln 4-3, and Mitchell 8-5. Head Coach Joel Sage has used his depth on the pitching staff to spread innings evenly amongst Tyler Mitzel, Ryan Leslie, Connor Grove, Josh Baumgart, Jake Eichacker, Ryan Benson, Seth Peterson and Lucas Wilber.

Seth Bjordal has led the way on offense going 5 for his first 8 at bats with a triple and 3 RBI’s.

2. Lincoln (3-1)

Despite their one loss the Patriots seem to have the balance of pitching and offense to make some noise this year. Head Coach Alex Sommers has Ethan Landon to rely on along with a deep offensive lineup. The team’s one loss came to #1 Roosevelt on a walk off single.

3. Washington (3-0)

The Warriors have been impressive in their first three games of the year taking two from Huron and following it up with a 6-0 win over Watertown. Austin Kost has yet to pitch for Washington but their team 2.57 ERA is still tight. Ethan Lynn leads the team in hitting and Justin Miller has logged the most innings (8) without giving up an earned run.

4. Brandon Valley (4-1)

Brandon is another team with just one loss that came to Roosevelt. Since that loss they’ve ripped off four wins in a row over Rapid City teams. Cole Vanderbeek has gotten off to a great start this season going 9 for 15 with 10 runs while slugger Jacob Adams is also hitting .600 with 15 RBI’s and 2 HR’s early on. The team is batting .383 after beating up on Rapid City pitching last week.

5. Brookings (2-1)

The Bobcats 2-1 start included a win over defending champs O’Gorman by the score of 14-9 on April 8^th. Konner Beste, Bryce McMacken, Corey Roach and company have kept the runs flowing early in the season.

Class B

1. Vermillion (5-1)

Vermillion was one of the few teams that got a game in this week. They upended Bon Homme 2-0 as they took advantage of some key Cavalier errors. Tanner Anderson, Ty Iverson, Justin Bendesky and Collin Bertram lead a potent offense. But it’s been Collin Olson’s arm that has earned three early season victories. Olson has pitched 15.1 innings and has yet to yield an earned run.

Vermillion’s one loss on the year came at the hands of Class A Yankton 4-2 on April 3.

2. St. Thomas More (4-1)

Earlier this month St. Thomas More split with O’Gorman then took out Rapid City Stevens and won two road games against South Central and Platte-Geddes. Landon Kudrna has been providing the offense while Caden Skinner has already turned in a dominant pitching performance with an 11 strikeout,  seven inning shutout.
