Moss impressive at Pro Day

Dale Moss didn't get an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. And though I can't recall where I read/heard it, I remember someone going so far as to call it one of the event's biggest snubs.

Well, judging by his performance during his pro day, it seems safe to say Moss will get the last laugh.

From his first vertical jump of the day, which drew a collective "whoa!" from the 30-plus on-lookers (including some of the other athletes), it was pretty clear that Moss was the best all-around athlete in the building.

He proved that in one drill after another. Here's a look at his numbers (times are unofficial).

  • Height: 6' 3"
  • Weight: 213 lbs
  • 40-yd Dash: 4.45
  • Vertical: 41.5"
  • Broad Jump: 10' 10"
  • 3-Cone: 6.32
  • 20-yd Shuttle: 4.08
  • 60-yd Shuttle: 10.82
  • Bench (225 lbs): 11 reps

These numbers, let alone the drills themselves, mean very little to those of us outside NFL circles. But it was pretty clear they meant quite a bit to the 10 or so scouts in attendance, and have since had a similar impact on some NFL Draft experts. You can draw your own conclusions by watching this highlight video we put together.

There is no way to know whether Moss' pro day performance will lead to that coveted draft day phone call, but it certainly won't hurt his chances.

Scouts now know that what he lacks in football experience, he more than makes up for in athleticism and work ethic. And with the recent success of basketball players-turned-football players in the NFL (Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham, etc.), he doesn't seem like that big of a gamble.

I've got to believe someone is going to take the chance.
