Power Rankings 2/1/12 (South Dakota Boys)

There are four teams that could make a compelling case to the top team in South Dakota. I elected to go with O'Gorman. They have been the most dominant defense in the state and Connor Schaefbauer has supplied enough offense to win. Their only losses on the year came to out of state teams at the Mike Miller Classic and a tough loss against Brookings. Lincoln has just one loss in-state and that was a one-point loss to O'Gorman early in the season. Mitchell has only one team that's been a thorn in their side suffering two losses to the Pierre. Other than Pierre games, Mitchell has looked like a championship team. Pierre could stake claim to the number one spot with a pair of wins over Mitchell and the most dominant player (Zach Hanson) in the post, but they have slipped up twice to Watertown and out of left field lost a game to a hot shooting Spearfish team. It should be a very interesting March in Class AA.

In class A even the best teams in the state have some significant blemishes. My top five have combined for 12 losses. I don't remember having such an open field in any class in a long time. Despite two losses for Dell Rapids, I still believe they are the most complete team and the team in the best position to improve in the next month. Dell Rapids has yet to play their best game and I think once they get Bryce Koch, Michael Schmidt and Cole Langer all shooting better they will rise to the top.
