Power Rankings 1/11/12 (South Dakota Boys)

The best team I’ve seen this year is the Pierre Governors. They began the year with a loss at home to Watertown. I think that initial impression has clouded people’s vision of just how good the Govs are. They came into the year with questions about how good their backcourt was. Sophomore Conrad Adam has stepped in nicely in the backcourt along with junior Lane Severyn and senior Connor Berg to form a very potent attack from the perimeter. Zach Hanson has kept improving in the middle especially on offense where his high shooting percentage and offensive rebounding have garnered him multiple 20+ point games. Some of the other experts around the state have yet to understand just how good this team from Pierre is. The bad news for the rest of the state is this team keeps getting better.

The field hasn’t been this competitive in years in Class A. St. Thomas More showed well at the Timberwolves Classic where they were handed their first loss of the yeat to Benilde-St. Margaret’s (MN). But their backcourt is the most consistent in the state led by Skye Warwick. Dell Rapids lost their first game of the year to Sioux Falls Christian but quickly avenged it just three days later beating the Chargers by three in Dell Rapids. Right now teams like McCook Central/Montrose, Madison, Aberdeen Roncalli, Miller and Tri-Valley don’t appear in my top five but are so close in talent level to my top five.
