Power Rankings 12/21/11 (South Dakota Boys)

Throw out the records, I'm convinced that Pierre has the best team in the state. But if my early season prognostications are any indication the Govs should ignore my blog. In the preseason I pegged Mitchell as the best, last week I moved Lincoln to number one. Both teams lost after a one-week reign at number one. This week Pierre takes the top spot. Zach Hanson has stepped up his game and claims this week's player of the week honors. He torched Huron for 22 points and ground out 26 points against Roosevelt (15 in the second half). But he's not doing it alone. Lane Severyn had his biggest game last week, Joe Tetzlaff is playing big  and the previously though weak backcourt has been outstanding with Connor Berg and Conrad Adam stepping up.

Get ready for a big game between the two unbeaten teams in my top five when Watertown hosts O'Gorman on Thursday night. Tanner Heiser just blew up for 29 points including 5-threes for Watertown against Yankton last week. O'Gorman will be looking for defensive stops to cool him off. There's a strange absence in my top five. Washington is unbeaten yet fell out of my top five. That's because after seeing them play, I'm not convinced that they belong with the others on my list. So far wins against Yankton, Brookings and Sturgis have been nice but they'll need to go toe to toe with some of the top teams for me to move them back in.
