South Dakota Junior Football

South Dakota Junior Football has been a staple program for youth football in the State of South Dakota since 1969.  South Dakota Junior Football is broken down into three divisions:  Pee Wee Division is made up of 3rd and 4th graders, Junior Division is made up of 5th and 6th graders, and Senior Division is made up of 7th and 8th graders.  These young kids are the future of high school football in South Dakota.  Head Coach Steve Kueter of Sioux Falls O’Gorman high school said, “We’ve won our state championships with a lot of kids that have gone through the South Dakota Junior Football Program.

Midco Sports Network had senior producer Tigh Lessman shoot the Junior and Senior division championships, while Bruce Andera called the games.  Next, I edited the games down to one hour in length.  I took a lot out of watching these two junior football games and as a former quarterback, I must say I was more than impressed with these coaches and their play calls.  In most junior games you tend to see runs of three yards and a cloud of dust, but in these games you will see plenty of double reverses, half back passes, and other plays outside of the box.

I attached highlights of both the Junior and Senior Championship games, so enjoy the plays called by these men…In the senior division championship; Ken Sproles (Dakota Sports) squares off against Wade Else (212, Boiling Point).  In the junior division championship Chuck Benson (Avera) matches wits with Russ Heins and Dale Zimmer (First Premier Bank).

These two championship games will be airing this Thursday on Midco Sports Network after Varsity Sports Now.  The junior division championship game will air at 7:30 followed by the senior division championship game at 8:30.
