The Chargers may be the best team regardless of class in the state they face Vermillion who made it back to the state tournament this year despite 7 losses.

 1)  Sioux Falls Christian 23-0

73.1 53.1

Coach Mike Schouten, Sioux Falls Christian:

Our message is pretty simple in that we are telling the guys to focus on one game at a time and to not take any team or any player for granted. It's the state tournament so anything can happen and we will have to play our best if we want to be successful."

 8) Vermillion 16-7

64.9 58.2

Coach Jay Drake, Vermillion:

“It will be a big challenge.  In my opinion, SFC is the best team in the state (regardless of class) and I think they have proven it throughout the year.  They really got after us in our regular season game and we were never really in the game as they jumped on us right away.  We will have to be much better this time around, but that is the challenge for us."

 4)  Pine Ridge (21-1)

73.1 51.9

Coach Casey Means, Pine Ridge

Pine Ridge has lost just one game this year, that was to Hot Springs back on January 4. Much of the rest of the year they've dominated their competition. They average a 21.2 margin of victory.

 5) Dakota Valley 20-3

76.3 60.3

Coach Jason Kleis, Dakota Valley

Our offense has clicked and we’ve scored better than we anticipated coming into the year.  Defensively, we’ve struggled a bit, we don’t have the size at the guard spot we’ve had in the past and we are trying to figure out how to stop other teams. "

3) Sioux Valley vs. 6) RC Christian

This is the first ever trip to the state A tournament for Rapid City Christian, they will play a very seasoned state tournament team in SIoux Valley. These teams faced off back at the Hanson Classic and Sioux Valley got the win. Sioux Valley features one of the top defenses in the class while RC Christian has one of hte top scoring offenses.

 3)  Sioux Valley 21-2

64.8 45.3

Coach Bill Vincent, Sioux Valley :

“We have a balanced attack, many nights puttting five dudes in double firgures.  We are really 7 pretty equal players in our top 7.

 6) Rapid City Christian

74.5 52.2

Coach Kyle Courtney, Rapid City Christian:

We are excited for the re-match with Sioux Valley.  Our kids are excited to play them again.  We know they are a great program, with a great coach, and a dominant big man.  We need to find a way to slow down Squires, which is easier said than done.

2) Hamlin vs 7) Groton Area

These two started the season playing each other and Hamlin got the 58-36 win. Hamlin’s only losses came to Sioux Falls Christian twice and to Cordova Tennessee. Hamlin has a determined and deep group of athletes. Jackson Wadsworth has stepped up as a sophomore to support a dynamic group of players like Easton Neuendorf, Tyson Stevenson, and Evan Stormo who all average double digits.  All of Groton’s losses came to state tourney teams…(Hamlin, Pine Ridge, Dakota valley, Vermillion)

 2) Hamlin 20-3

72.0 41.5

Coach Todd Neuendorf, Hamliln:

Our message will be the same as it has been all year.  We need to rely on our defense and set the tempo with that.   This time of year it is the little things that really matter.  We will need to defend, get easy baskets, and limit our turnovers.

Groton is a very good team….we played them the first game of the year…a lot of things for them and us have changed since then.   I think it will be an up and down basketball game with both teams playing very tough nosed defense.

 7) Groton Area 19-4

67.3 42.4

Coach Brian Dolan, Groton:

Hamlin is a very good basketball team that we are familiar with.  They got the best of us in the first game of the season.  We have grown a lot since then, just as they have.  Honestly, I think we are more prepared for them this time around and it should be a great game for people to watch.

Just like the other seven teams here, we know we belong.  To this point it's been a great season for us, but there is more for us to write before this story is over.
